m50 vim-var alternative material
due to the material m50 vim-var (high performance bearing steel) becoming increasingly hard to obtain, i am searching for a similar material to use. this steel is common for jet engine bearings. does anyone know of a readily available material that is replacing the use of m50 vim-var???
check out our whitepaper library.
aerospace bearings use a number of different grades, although m50 (sae ams 6490/6491) is probably the most common for high temperature applications. proprietary grades like cronidur 30 (sae ams 5898) from energietechnik essen and lescalloy bg42 (sae ams 5749) from latrobe are available for high temperature applications. have you considered changing to carburizing instead of through hardening? |
