angle connection pull through strength, tear off strength et
for two angles connected by bolts with load perpendicular to the bolt axis, aisc-13th gives very detailed calculation formulars for bearing strength, angle tension strength both on gross area ag and effective area ae=an*u. how about if the load is parallel to the bolt axis as shown in attached file? are there any codified formulas to calculate such angle strength as pull through, bearing, tear off(or shear) strength at the portion of angle bolt hole to the edge?
thanks a lot!
check out the hanger connection in part 15, and part 9 - prying action.
i would just check tension in the bolt, unless the induced load causes bending (prying) in the angle legs.

i'm with dave on this one. but i guess at some point the angle thickness would become critical, where the bolt pulls through the material before failing.
hi
these may help on the bolts and angle. |
