concrete curved beams
any good references for the design of concrete curved beams?

check out our whitepaper library.
pretty sure roark has the equations. obviously you'll need reo all around the perimeter for torsion.
cheers

we have the beam designed. torsion was considered the ties are closed type. i am looking to see if there are concrete references that may have new data or procedures.

joints at loadbearing masonry/reinf concrete interface: to accomodate differential movement between dissimilar materials, its standard practice to cut a joint in the cement render at the position of the masonry/concrete interface. i have a project where the architect is vehemently opposed to the joint for aesthetic reasons. i'm investigating reinforcing the render accros the joint. by providing a bond-breaker (to increase the area over which the render can move) for a distance (say 5") on both sides of the joint and reinforcing the render for another 5" beyond, i'm reasoning that the slab/masonry movement will result only in a series of micro-cracks in the render rather than a big uncontrolled crack. anyone have any experience on this? |
