concrete removal
what construction method can be used to remove the concrete surface from a 3" concrete slab over a 3" composite metal deck? the area will be tapered from 0" to 1 1/2" deep.
will bush hammering, scarifying and grinding do the trick?
i am not concerned about the finish other than it be level. there will be finish material on it.

have you first checked that removing 1 1/2" of concrete will not impair the structural capacity of the deck/slab?
jae asks a good question.
i like to add another one to his. are there any shear connectors (studs) present? you may need to check on them as well and the removal of their heads.
jike-
a needle scaler, scarifier or scabbler might work depending on how big the area is that needs removal.  these machines are available in many configurations from hand-held small ones up to bobcat mounted units.  they can be rented in some cities.
minumum depth of removal is between 3/16 and 1/4" i belieeve, but you can get your 1 1/2" depth with multiple passes or by just staying working on one area at a time.
suggest you look in the international concrete repair institute website for further data.  there are arguments in the literature about how good the roughened surface from each of these machines is for bonding patches or overlays.  regards.
jike- also forgot about mentioning hydro-demolition.  again it depends on how big the plan area you are working with to remove.
jae:
yes, we have checked the slab capacity and it is ok.
lufti:
we have limited the area to one that has no shear studs.
we will cut out wwf if it is exposed.
thanks for your comments!
