concrete shear angle
we currently have a project which requires framing new concrete grade beams into existing foundation piers. i am thinking about using a structural steel angle connected to the existing concrete pier with hilte's adhesive anchor system to transfer the shear from the pier to the grade beam. has anyone used this method?
if you are just transferring shear just drill and epoxy new rebar dowels into the existing footing and cast them in with the new grade beam.

wouldn't the interface at least need to be roughened to use shear friction? in other words, i have never just used rebar to transfer shear, but in combination with a rough surface.
both work - just a different λ factor right?
that's right. 0.6 lambda vs 1.0 lambda.
i would hazard a guess that the sides of the existing footing are probably pretty rough to begin with but certainly you can abrade it a bit if you so desire... |
