control joints in concrete slabs at poolside patio
can i get away with 20 foot spaced control joints in a concrete slab that is 4 inches thick that surrounds an in- ground pool at a country club. the control joint is about 1/4 inch deep. the area is somewhat irregular in shape requiring an unsymmetrical control joint pattern with maximum spacing of 20 feet
without rebar (not wwf), i would bet that you would get cracking each way at mid panel.
i would suggest control joints at 8 to 10 feet maximum in accordance with pca requirements. panels should be approximately square, not rectangular.
i wouldn't skimp on this location, as cracking will be noticed and you will get complaints.
jdbpe...ditto to jike and cvg comments.
also, the control joint depth for a 4-inch slab should be 7/8" - 1", and saw them as soon as possible after placement, but in no case more than 12 hours after placement, preferably sooner.
recommended minimum sawcut depth is 1/4 of the depth of the slab. i prefer 1/3.
i also prefer using a "sofcut" saw, if available. |
