deck layout
this is a common problem that i see on occasion...
metal deck, that is to be fasten to an angle or other structural member (for load or diaphragm), sometimes, is not layed out properly so that the bottom flute falls cannot fall on that member, so no connection is made. or perhaps the metal deck layout allows one bottom flute to land over the member on one side of the building and at the other side, it is off.
the solution is to have a specially fabricated closure piece allow the deck to land on the member, however, this piece is often not provided and the detailer and erector often ignore this layout problem. usually when it is caught in the field, it becomes an expensive problem to fix.
any solutions?

i have a typical detail showing the filler sheet you describe, and also mention the filler in the structural general notes.  sometimes the contractor still misses it, but at least i tried.
if you can make the diaphragm work with zero sidelaps, then you don't need to fasten it to a continuous angle.
