deck ledger/point load
i have a 2nd story deck hung by 3 beams on metal hangers ( 10'apart) attached to a 2"x10"x20'ledger bolted (2-1/2" bolts & nuts @16"o.c.)through dbl. 2"x10" blocking between each joist. at 50lb.psf the outer beams (2-2"x10") at the hanger ledger connection would have a max. load of 1500lb. and the center beam (4-2"x10") 3000 lb. is this ledger strong enough for these point loads.
all comments appreciated.

if i understand your description properly, the weak link is the shear connection of your blocking to the joists. further, i don't understand how you attached two thicknesses of 2x lumber with a 2-1/2" bolt.
the bolts are 8"x1/2" two every 16"o.c. pardon my previous description.
the blocking rests on sill plate of foundation (walkout basement). blocking is nailed with 3-16d nails through each side of the floor joists into the ends of each side of the blocks.
what remedial action can i take to add to the shear connection if needed?
add angle plates at each blocking. |
