deflection at interior window partition
i need to design the 28' tall door and window jambs for a vestibule.  what deflection criteria shall i use for glass.  l/600?  5 psf interior wind?
thank you!
the 1/600 might work, except if the glazing or glass provider wants more stringent deflection specifications.
contrarily, 5 psf wind to me look -even if only for the concept of suction from the exterior- quite meager.
note that when the wind is pushing inwards, an outer door, even if not at edges, will sustain 66% of the full overall structural wind load, and more if near edges.
if asked to tackle such thing, i very likely would design a inner door of this size as a exterior one, and even more resistant if so i deduce needs be the case depending upon differences of pressure gained from hvac or chimney effect.
ishvaaag,
forgive me!  i have not made this clear.
the door is not 28' tall.  the wall is 28' tall.  it is the interior wall of a vestibule.  the series of six doors are 7'-4" tall with many windows above.
i think your best source of information on something like this would be to call a window and curtainwall manufacturer like kawneer or wausau metals.  they do this type of construction all the time and would be able to tell you best what is feasible.
asc provides some serviceability considerations for low-rise buildings. design guide series 3. they suggest absolute as well as relative limits for 3 directions depending on conditions.
