deflection limits for large spans
hi,
i have a 40' door opening. the doors will be sliding doors which open from the middle.
i can find vertical deflection limits from manufacturers such as nanawall but nothing on horizontal deflections due to wind loading and i am in a hurricane zone. what deflection limits would one recommend in this situation.
nana walls vertical deflection limits are l/720 or 1/4" which ever is smaller.
any comments?
thanks

check out our whitepaper library.
one other thing....the doors are glass sliding doors.
wouldn't the door manufacturer be able to give you some input on this?  it would seem to me that the guiding factor would be their door's ability to deal with some level of deflection - not some other empirical limit.

also to what amount of deflection that the material of door (glass in this case) been able to handle without fail.
could they put in some form of deflection track to handle the anticipated deflection?
what does your client expect of the drywall inside?  if he expects to endure no cracks after a hurricane, you will need to make it stiff.  i am assuming they will not want to use the sliding glass door durig a hurricane, but who knows what some clients want to do?
