design of roadway using pavers
anyone who has a link of good refence to design access roads using pavers? please let me know.

i can't provide a good reference, but i worked briefly for txdot in the mid 90's, and i helped supervise the construction of an intersecion of a residential road to a highway. if i recall correctly the road was layered from top to bottom as follows. pavers/1" sand/4" reinforced concrete/asphalt underlayment/lime treated soil. the pavers were locked in place with a concrete curb element around the perimeter. as far as i know, the intersection has held up well. i haven't been by in a few years. the nice thing about the pavers, is that if there is a local failure, pavers can be removed and replaced without too much trouble.

cool and i would appreciate that. i am assuming it is like any other pavement; the base and sub-base material and compaction are the most critical.

compaction is critical, but also avoiding loss of the sand layer (think 2" normally recommended) is important. as jcox recommends for heavy duty use some kind of bound road base is good. he suggests asphalt or lime treated soil, i have previously used cement stabilised soil. i have also seen for light duty use a polythene sheeting between the subbase and the sand layer.
