design of steel beam w/torsion
  hello guys,
i am designing a steel beam running on 8" masonry wall between two steel columns.this beams is supported on the masonry wall.this steel beam is supporting w5x16 steel beams which are vertical and hold the acoustical panels in between them and are cantilvering out from the design beam. the wind load on the acoustical panels are causing a torsional effect on the design beam. these w5x16 steel beams are spaced 8' apart on the design beam with a span of 24'.can you tell me  how to design the beam since the torsional moment is the only load acting on it and i can't exceed the 8" flange thickness of the design beam.thank you for your help.
abdul

try using hss 10x8x5/8 or box the flanges of a w shape.
as civilperson said,
the best approach when dealing with members subjected to torsion is to used a closed cross-section. since the beam will only be carrying torsion (apart from its own weight,) i would go for an hss
yes, agree with above - wide flanges are awful with torsion - they will twist to a high degree.
use a tube.
