drawing question (lintels in first or second floor plan?)
what is the general consensus in this forum as to where the lintels should be drawn. i have seen plans from different firms without consitency in this issue.
should lintels of first floor windows, use as a background the first or second floor?
you feedback is appreciated.
architect would show the window at the first floor level. structural engineer would show the lintel for that window at the second floor level. it is a matter of convention but structural engineers uaually like to show the "supports".
i agree with whyun.
most of my experience is that the lintel is shown below the floor. a lintel supporting second floor framing would be shown on the second floor. early concrete drawings i've seen and some house framing plans show a reflected support plan.
dik
on plan, we show the floor or roof framing and beams, lintels or supports in the wall below. so lintels for the first floor openings would show up on the second floor plan.
i was told engineers cut their floor sections right above floor level while architects cut their floor sections several feet above floor level. the drawings i have seen (including my own) tend to be consistent with this. |
