earthquake proof alloy ?
" new alloy, which he calls nitinol" new? do they mean the sma [shape memory alloy] nitinol that was developed in the '60s ? the budget should be interesting if it includes nickel/titanium alloy rebar !
i think that's what they're talking about but perhaps with more strength (i'm not sure but it does sound like the stuff that's been around for a while)...and yes, i hope that i get a percentage of the costs to use the stuff. i won't make any plans to start looking for the stuff in the field for at least a few decades.
the next hurdle is developing concrete with the same properties.
the use of nitinol has been around for years. if anyone had braces, then you had nitinol in your mouth!!! its used in orthodontics regularly. it will be interesting to see what will become of nitinol in the construction biz.
