erthquake loads induced by cranes?
hello
i have the crane with selfweight of 155kn and payload of max. 200kn. i can't find out which % of selfweight and % of payload should i take into account for calculating earthquake loads. i think that 100% for selfweight, but i don't know for the payloads. i also know that it depends on the code we are using. i prefer eurocode, but i'll be happy with any comment

check out our whitepaper library.
earthquake lateral frequencies are almost certainly far higher than the pendulum excitation frequency of whatever load you may have on the crane's line. however, the vertical accelerations must be accounted for. although a crane's boom and line are quite flexible, i would imagine the additional load to be significant.
if you "heard" it on the internet, it's guilty until proven innocent. - dcs
drile007, we never take into acount the pay load into seismic load calculation. it is just the self weight of the crane + crab + trolley which is considered while calculating sesimic forces. the crane which i am talking about is for maintenance purpose. we never consider crane lifting any load during seismic event. it is considered that crane is parked near to the gable end frame of the building during seismic event. this is what i have seen in last 3-4 companies i have worked with. but would be difficult to mention any clause from the codes if at all it has been mentioned there.
thank you guys for the clear answers.
