explosion loads on st. steel corrugated plate profiles
hi i have encountered a little problem; we have 2 mm corrugated plates, width 4000 mm, height 3300 mm,
welded very solid in the bottom, welded also at the top, but this beam is a rectangular and have a possibillity to rotate if the cross section goes into plastic state.
now, the load to be applied is 0,2 bar static pressure, evenly distribution.
in my opinion the problem is to determine the max stress this can take without breaking. deformation shoiuld be supposed to be ok.
now the standards bs-en 1993, eurocode 3, reduses the allovable cross section to use, resulting in a, in my opinion, very conservative way to look at this.
in my opinion, the corrugated plate can experience shear stress high enough to tear out, or;
buckle in 3 horizontal areas. the buckling areas can also have some shear areas in the areas where compression occur, and tension on the oposite side. this uses most of the available area of the material in the stressed cross sections.
the first way to look at this problem, is perhaps a bit conservative, while my way to look at this is perhaps a bit aggressive. so i'd like to have your views on this problem, also links to formulas that can be used.
