fire rating of wood columns
i am looking for any information relating to a 2hr fire rating assembly around a engineered wood column.

you could look into providing enough charring thickness around it so that you dont need extra protection.
not sure how this is justified to us codes but it is acceptable in most countries.

the situation is this...
i am trying to make the correlation between ul rated stud walls with 2 layers of 5/8鈥?gypsum on each side, constituting a 2hr rating.
we are trying to apply this reasoning to a wood column located inside a non-rated wall. if we wrap the column in 2 layers of 5/8鈥?gypsum shouldn鈥檛 this give us a two 2hr rating?
ul, as far as we can see, does not address wood columns and wood beams in this fashion.
we are having a hard time getting the architect to buy into this thought process.
are we out on a island?
