formability of hps70
i am looking for information on the hot or cold forming of hps70 in thickness of 65mm to 100mm. id from 870mm to 1700mm.
forming structural tubular members to 3000mm in length.
does it have to be hps 70w or can it be some other steel of similar strength? the high toughness of hps is usually desired for fatigue-sensitive applications, but the one-sided welds used both for the long seam of your tube and to join the tube to anything else are typically not considered good fatigue details.
hps 70w is either quenched and tempered or controlled rolled, which rules out hot forming altogether.
your best bet would be to talk to someone at isg (which just became part of mittal steel), which has been making most of the hps 70w so far. (someone else just started making it but i forget who.)
here's isg's brochure, which doesn't have the information you need, but it has some contact info: |
