hollow steel pipe pile in tension
what is the best detail for a hollow steel pipe tension pile imbedded in a pile cap. we were going to cap the top with a steel plate to keep concrete from going down the pile. then either weld studs to the side of the pile, say 8 studs, two at each of the four quadrants. or weld rebar to the side of the pile at each of the four quadrants and extend them up to the top mat of reinforcing, terminating with a hook.
anyone have any suggestions?
i'd go with grade 40 rebar welded to the side. however, i would put holes thru the steel cap plate too to insert the rebar thru, and extend the cap plate over the edge by 3" or so all around, or square, designing the plate to take some of the uoplift too. that way the rebar doesn't have to do it all. the rebar should all be encased in concrete too though.
