in reading this paragraph i understand that the forces shall be increased only for the design of the connection of a flexible diaphragm to a vertical elements such as a shearwall or a collector. for example the connection of a diaphragm to the top of a shearwall or drag strut. but what about when a shearwall connects to a flexible diaphragm where no shear transfer to a shearwall directly below but the wall below is offset? i would provide a drag element to distribute the force to the diaphragm, but the force that would then be again distributed to the offset walls would not include the additional 25% load. except for the design of the connection of the diaphragm to the vertical element or drag strut.
in short, the increase is only intended for the connection design, not the diaphragm or shearwalls.
any clarification you could provide would be appreciated,

the language specifically deals with the connectionsfff"> so i think you are correct in your interpretation. |
