is it worth it to get and se??
people often ask in this forum if "it is worth it to get a pe?". i think in structural/civil the answer is obviously yes. that question though has been answered at length on these pages. i have a pe earned thru the structural 1 exam. i have recently been contemplating the value of adding the se credential to my resume. it might be of interest to know that i practice in the northeast and none of the states in my area  require anything beyond a pe for structural design.
any thoughts are welcome.

if you can pass the test, by all means get it!  it will only increase your market value if you ever are looking other employment.  even if you stay in the northeast, you might want to work for a nationwide firm.

i would definetely get it, just for the challenge of it. also, in states like illinois, licensed structural engineers are entitled to stamp architectural drawings, as opposed to pe's, which can in turn widen your ability to do more jobs.
just a thought.

rare bug,
i read thru the illinois state web site and it appears that structural engineers are allowed to practice architecture(or at least exempt from all architecture laws). is this correct? so does that mean you can act as an architect in all ways. is this a result of architects exempting themselves from the structural design requirments.
this is interesting becasue in most states you have to be very careful you do not get accussed of practicing architecture if a client has you doing work with no architect on board - like a remodel.
