lifting cables
i have several very heavy precast beams and was curious if it is common practice to use a 1" lifting cable instead of two 1/2" lifting cables. the plant prefers the former arrangement. these are some heavy beams, but i've never seen a 1" lifting cable used before and i am concerned about developing these cables. the manufacturer has no information on development, so i am curious as to how you would ensure that the cable would be developed?

i dont have pci infront of me, but i think there is a section on developing/designing the aircraft cables(thats what we used to use) into the piece. thats where i would start
clansman - are you intending to embed the cables into these beams, leaving a loop exposed for lifting purposes?

two cables are more flexible and if of enough strength provide redundancy. however 1 may be satisfactory if all the requirements are met.
the 6th edition of pci does give some guidance on lifting loops in section 5.3.4. it recommends cable for smaller precast
