machine foundations
i have experience in the design of stamping press foundations. the largest being 300 ton press (total weight 90 kips) cycling at 160 to 200 strokes per minute. the press manufacturer recommended the min. size interia block to be used along with isolation leveling pads under the press feet and isolations rubber around the inertia block.
(no problems with past designs)
i have been asked to design a mat or raft foundation for a 6,000 ton alumnimum extrusion press. the press weighs 820 kips and is spread over a 32' x 40' area. the (4) tie rods contain the forces developed between the cylinder/plunger and the die. however, the press calls for (18) 2-1/4" diameter anchor bolts embedded 55" into the concrete foundation. manufacturer's rep believes these large botls are mainly for leveling purposes. i have a request in for more information. i am looking for advice, examples, and or reference material to help with this design.
aci 351.3r-04 "foundations for dynamic equipment" is a good reference
