3D distance with v43
<< Beatriz Beraza -- 08/27/08 19:11:45>>
In attached part program I reference the part with a quite big area
not mecanized. Then I measure the same plane again and 2 planes in both extremes of this part. Photograph of the part also attached.
I've read in the help file that for v4.3 a 3D distance gives the shortest result between the centroid of the second plane to the first plane but I don´t think this is what I get.
Please, could you explain me 3D results for the distance? 2D results are logical but I don´t know which is the distance I get as 3D (or shortest 3D).
Thanks

e second bullet item:
"If both features are lines, centerlines, or planes the second feature is used for
the datum. If both features are planes, the 3D distance is the perpendicular distance
from the centroid of the first plane to the second plane; the second plane acts as
the datum."
In the "Shortest Check Box" topic, I added in the "3D" into the first sentence:
The Shortest check box, when selected, calculates the true shortest 3D distance between
two lines.
Please review and let me know if anything else is needed.

The 3D distance between two planes is the perpendicular distance from the centroid of the first plane to the second plane (the second plane acts as a datum). The "Shortest" checkbox as implemented by Task 102832 applies only to the 3D distance between two lines.
