minimum footing depth
what is the minimum footing depth for the horizontal distance from bottom leading edge of footing to daylight of slope?
depth of frost in the horizontal and along the slanted line at right angle to the soil surface unless insulated.
probably best to check with local geotechnical engineers for recommendations on this. depth of frost isn't always the level you place footings. usually you set the footings belowfff"> the mean annual frost depth for the given area.
for example, in our area, mean frost depth is about 26 inches over recent history (20 years plus). footings are generally set at 42" due to variability of frost depth. this is for heated buildings. for unheated structures you should go a bit deeper (perhaps 6").
check with your local code authority... they may specify something other than what you would expect...
st. louis is 30'' while only 100 miles away it is like 18''
but the climates are just not that different. |
