parking garage floor slab
i'm designing a 3 story retail building with the first level being parking space. this space is unheated and exposed to the weather. frost protection is a must. obviously my spread footings and wall footings will be deep to provide frost protection. what sort of things can be done to protect the floor slab? can i ever tie my floor slab to the frost walls or do they have to be totally idependent? what thinkness concrete slab have most people used for parking garages? thanks much.
slab-on-grade should do the job. no connection between the slab and the wall for vertical restraint. also check the geotechnical information, make sure the slab vertical movement is acceptable and won't cause other problems.
