percentage of structure cost related to overall construction
i know it varies by type of structure and type of project, but does anyone know of a resource where i can read about some very rough numbers of structure cost as a % of total construction cost?
for instance, in a midrise steel office bldg, is the structure cost typically like 8% of the overall cost, or 25%? in general.
oh, by the way, not the fee of the structural engineer, but the structure cost.
thanks!

means is a pretty good source. rsmeans.com
try enr.com also.
a great resource for this is your own bid data and breakdowns requested with the bid submittal. the question is, always, what do you call structural and what fall into architectural. it is not always very clear cut.
heres one for a shed in the uk
a typical project for me comes in at about 17% to 22% of the total building cost. this is for a two story, steel frame, steel roof joists, shallow spread footings. |
