post embedment equation
ibc 1805.7.2.2 equations 18-2 and 18-3 (also "a" for eq. 18-1)
is the "b" suppose to be in the denominator or the numerator?
seems like denominator would make more sense. increasing the pole diameter decreases the embedment depth, right?
you got it. i brought it up in this thread some time ago.
right or wrong, it's been written this way ad infinitum.

au contraire, the 1994 ubc has it written in a less ambiguous way, with a horizontal division line, with b in the denominator, where it belongs.
thanks for the help. i searched the old threads but didn't find that one.
the "pole building design" document by donald patterson provides a derivation and a chart of the non-constrained equation. "a" clearly ends up in the denominator.
the document has been referenced several times in these forums. do a search to find the link. |
