rebar exposed ends
i have a situation where rebar will be cut during a demo process.  the exposed ends of the rebar will remain exposed.  i am looking for a coating to protect the exposed ends from corrosion.
find a job or post a job opening
i would be sure to cover the entire face of the concrete, not just the rebar end.  just inside the concrete face, the covering material will not exist and oxidation can easily occur.
some form of waterproofing or competent exterior paint system which works with both steel and concrete would be appropriate.  or, a fabricated cover - such as flashing, could be considered.
one exterior product we've used is autogard by neogard, inc.
consider to ether seal the end (possibly with an expoxy syst) or back gouging the rebar and mortar fill.  if you dont maintain adequate protection from mosture, the steel will corrode.
if only the ends of the rebar were to be exposed then i agree with boo1 that "back gouging" the rebar and filling the hole would be the best idea. however i guess that there is no gurantee that either longitudinal or vertical rebar would also not be exposed.
still the best way would be to cut back an additional 40mm including the rebar and then use a repair mortar to provide the required cover.
i would be apprehensive about cutting back only 40mm to provide the additional cover.  depending on the size of the repair patch, the freeze thaw cycle may ultimately lead to the mortar spalling away over time.
i would look at an applied coating, possibly epoxy or bitumen based.  or a flexible cementious coating such as fosroc nitocote.  i would also be inclined to speak to a company like fosroc and see what they would recommend.
you might consider backgouging as per boo... and using a zinc rich primer on the rebar end and capping with a cementitious epoxy mortar.  what degree of corrosion are you looking at?

the situation is this.  an exterior slab got poured monolithically with the slab for a frost slab (structural stoop).  the reinforcing for the stoop and slab was placed correctly.  there is no joint.  the concrete over the stop is being saw cut and removed.  the slab for the stoop will be re-poured with a joint between it and the exterior slab.  some rebar in the exterior slab to remain may get cut or exposed depending on how careful the work is done.
from the dental department:
could you drill out the rebar and fill with grout?
