soil-structure interaction
hello guys,
i am trying to improve my knowledge about soil-structure interaction, and how to model its true behaviour.
is there anybody who can help me to find some principal text books and literatures?
many thanks,
sam
1. read structural engineering textbooks about "beam on elastic foundation"
2. read geotechnical textbooks/papers.
thanks "kslee1000"for your response, but
it has nothing to do with beam on elastic foundation. it is more specific field which expands beyond just geotechnical papers.
when you post soil-structure interaction, the first thing i think about is modelling the soil as an elastic spring in your fe model. bowels book "foundation analysis and design" is a good reference material, i have also picked up some reference material that i have collected from geotechnical consultants along the way that i will post when i go back to work.
soil-structure interaction is highly complicate field, it's site specific as well as structure (function) specific. i shouldn't have mentioned textbooks, since there is no single book that teaches all. i agree that bowels' book is very good, but you will need more than that. beam on elastic foundation is the fundamental lesson on soil-structure interaction, the concept can strengthen your modelling skills, assist in predicting outcomes, and in interpreting analysis results. beyond that, you will need to do research and study a lot of great geotech papers published on profession journals. yes, a lot, because most papers are case specific. you may start your search at asce website, which will lead you to other sources that you find useful. us corp of engineer website is also a worthy place to visit. have fun.
