vibration due to noise
dear colleagues:
i'm working at the moment in a project were our client is asking us to comply with the following noise vibration levels.
category vibration limit (?)see com: 1 rooms/ areas comments
1 < 0.02 m/s2 central control room
2 < 0.04 m/s2 workshops, laboratories, control rooms, offices and equipment rooms,
3 < 0.07 m/s2 process and utility areas
4 < 0.25 m/s2 locally to equipment
5 < 3 m/s2 normally unmanned areas
can a normal construction comply with these limits or special construction has to be provided. i appreciate everyone's support.
noise and vibration effects and loads due to them are very unique specialty and can be indeed a nuisance. i recommend that you get in touch with an engineering firm (or an engineer) who specializes in this area. this way you can go to sleep, achieve a good design and your client would be happy.
there is nothing wrong in bringing in an expert to aid you in your design. i would not dare venture into areas where i ma vulnerable and week. i also think it is very unprofessional.
regards,
lutfi
i agree with lufti.
this is not an area of 'normal' engineering. specialists in acoustics may well be your first choice.
i note that the reqirement for area 5 is radically different from the other values.
has your client asked for any method of verifying compliance? i imagine that there may be significant costs in site testing vibration performance. |
