wall tie
i am currently designing a 40-feet high single story warehouse type concrete building (seismic zone 4). the roof system is open web joist and metal deck (no concrete). i am designing the wall anchorage to the diaphragm at the roof level for the walls running parallel to the open web joist. what details are typically used and analyzed?
check out our whitepaper library.
this is probably a tilt up building which usually has embed plates with headed studs in the panels which are used to weld to the continuous diaphragm ledger angle. this allows the shear transfer parallel to the wall.
some engineers also put in extra steel members in the plane of the diaphragm at this area to make sure the roof panels won't crush from the force coming in perpendicular to the wall.
