wind load on parapet

i just want to know how to determine the wind load of the wooden parapet shown inorder to design the parapet and the bracing. i am confused whether to use main wind force resisting formula or formula for components and cladding. the parapet is made up of 2x6 wood studs and diagonal brace. the bracing surface is covered with built up roofing.thank you very much
on parapets you would use compnents and cladding for determining wind loads. the mwfrs is the building itself, the loads from the parapet are transferred to it.
erv is correct.....use the c&c values for the parapet.
thanks erv and csellc, but how about the wind load on the bracing?
erv is correct...
from your illustration, the bracing would be directly supporting the parapet. thus the reaction from your parapet are the loads to be used to design your bracing.
however, since your bracing are covered, then loads determined through components and cladding should also be applied and checked. its just a matter of analysis depending on wind direction.
hope this helps.
if components and cladding formula will be applied to the bracing part, what roof angle will be used in order to get the corresponding wind pressure. (particularly referring to table 1609.6.2.1(2) ibc 2000). the inclination of the bracing as shown in the figure is different with the orientation shown in figure 1609.6(2)"component and cladding loading diagrams". tnx |
