wind loading for a flat canopy attached to a building
what is the most appropriate method in asce 7-05 in coming up with design pressures for a flat roof canopy attached to a building?
i used the lower roof provisions which bumps you back to the roof overhangs, but you use different zones (you use cp for zone 2 in zone 3 and for zone 1 in zone 2).
i'll be interested to hear from others.
what about if you use method 2?
that is the analytical method
this condition is discussed explicitly in the seaw/atc 60 commentary on the wind load provisions (which is quite good - i would recommend it for anyone doing a lot of wind design):
i've always used the wall pressure at the height of the canopy. when a wind hits the windward wall of a building, it can go over or around. i assume the wind going over the building is acting as a perpendicular load on the bottom of the canopy.
hope this helps. |
