wind loads for building structure and components??
per ncb there are two methods for determining wind pressure for low rise buildings using external pressure coefficients. one for the primary structure (such as columns and beams)(fig. 1-7) and one for roofs and walls (fig 1-8 for wall and 1-9 to 1-14 for roofs).
i have no problem in determining the wind pressure for any of these cases. when designing the primary structure (columns and beams) i would apply the wind pressure obtained from using fig 1-7. now for my question, would i apply the reactions from say the girts designed for wind per fig 1-8 onto the columns that already have a wind pressure determined from fig. 1-7? or do i just design the girts for wind from fig. 1-8 and the main steel structure from fig 1-7?
thanks,
m.
no. that's two seperate considerations. 1. apply 1-7 on tributary area for columns and beams. 2. apply 1-8 on tributary area for girts and purlins. do design independently. |
