swvbaddin for sw 2009sp1 on vista 64 does not work oob
vista 64 business
solidworks 2009 sp 1
visual studio 2005 w/ sp1 and vista sp1 upgrade
created a new addin using the swvbaddin template. builds clean, but does not register in hklm/software/solidworks/addins. does not show up in sw addins list when running in "debug" mode. same steps work on vista 32.
your building your project as a 32bit app so it is registering itself in the wow32 registry not the true 64bit reg. change your solution build platform to x64
is that a "firm" must be a true 64bit and not "any cpu"?
re: recommendation received from sw is for "any cpu".
no change to x64, if you choose any cpu it allows it to be marshalled as either but you cannot compile a dll as both 32 or 64bit, so when it comes to running a com registration command it will pick up the 32bit reg by default.
makes sense.
the interesting thing is, as soon as x64 is chosen as the compile option and a buiild is performed vs2005 reports that the addin "is not a valid assembly".
thats because it is trying to register on wow32 as standard. just ignore that. has it worked for you in swx64 now then?
no, it hasn't. as soon as the target cpu is changed to x64 i get a "is not a valid assembly" error message that prevents using it.
i've got the same issue. had no problems developing vb6 add-ins on 32-bit. getting the same issue on 64-bit vista ultimate and vs2005/2008.

try to manually load the add-in by just file->open... 'ing the dll directly to see if that works first.
no go. get an error message of "failed to initialize add-in".
i've even tried compiling the "sample" add-in and it gives the same result in vista x64 + vs2008
