luke malpass book (anglesix)
i just purchased this book and it is a very good book. thanks luke. i would give it 8/10. the reason for this post though is because reading this book i started to wonder if i am waisting my time learning visual basic 6, everthing in the book is explained in vba and c# and everything sounds a like it is alot easier in c# than in vba. is the only reason that you would stay with vba just that you can have macro's ? i am no expert at this yet but how i understand it everything that you make outside of vba would have to be an add-in or stand-a-lone am i right ?
please post your own questions answers, and thoughts regaurding this subject. thanks.

with solidworks 2009, you will be able to record and write macros in vb or c#.net, so there will be no reason for learning vba or vb6.

i see that is very interesting. good to know i think i am not goin to bother learning anymore about vb then and just switch to c#. so vb might go extinct then. (ha)

i didn't see anything in 2009 sp0 regarding that.
the reason to learn vba is that it has an internal editor, where vb.net needs a separate editor not provided with sw. this one simple fact will continue to keep vba in use for many years, unless vb.net is now included in the sw package.

i agree with matt on vba being included with solidworks but when a program is running you can not do anything with the model. when a program is written using a separate editor you can run the program separately from solidworks.

hi dan
do you mean when a macro is running you can't do anything with the model?

solidworks 2009 installs vsta (visual studio tools for application. i did not think about it before, but if you want to write macros for excel, you will still need to know vba.

ahh... very niiice. didn't know about vsta. simply save the macro as a vsta type and you're good to go. apparently vsta is the successor to vba. i can't wait |
