how many decimal places?
ok, i know if my dimension is 1.0005 my tolerances have to be to 4 places (+/- .0005). my question comes in when the 1.0005 is defined as datum a. when a second surfce is controlled perpendicular to a within 5 thousandths...does it get expressed as .005 or .0050?
thanks,
anthony
check out our whitepaper library.
i think the fcf for the perpendicularity would be .005 not .0050. although i think i see the point of the question.
kenat, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...
each surface tolerance will stand alone based on its' function, thus if the perpendicular surface surface needs only .005 accuracy, an extra zero would be meaningless.
i agree with the kenat & checkerron.

values in tolerance frames are absolute. additional precision is meaningless.
as the question is asked, i agree with the others.
to clarify what thetick posts, the number of decimal places in a fcf would be the same as that of any related dimension locating that feature (para 2.3.2(d) of the standard). not quite the situation about which you are asking.
believe it if you need it or leave it if you dare.fff"> - robert hunter |
