ansi standards for wood workin
hi i posted this before in a different forum and didn't get a response. maybe this forum with all the expertise in standards may be able to comment. thanks
i am working as advisor to a school board. they have an industrial arts room where they want to use somwe wood working tools eg a 10" table saw, a planer , lathe etc.
does any one know of a guide or standard for layout of the room for safety purposes? is there a safety space envelope so students can use these tools without encroaching on each other danerously.
eng-tips forums is member supported.
newnorthman,
from what you are describing you may have to look to osha for help with that, if your in usa.
the standard would be osha 1910. i was involved with this in my last job working on keeping the press room up to the required osha standards.

i worked around a big machine shop years ago, but not much wood shop (except at home). we tried to keep approx 5-6 ft around the perimeter of the machines. this worked well for us. i don't know what the official std is. we had osha regular inspect, but i never knew of a problem. so we either were in spec or beyond, but were not told. i'm sure we would have known if it was wrong. |
