dimensional change resulting from shot peen
i have a 1.3713/1.3724 dia. pin with a .875 dia. hole thru it. the material is 15-5 heat treat 180/200 ksi (hrc40-43). the part is to be shot peened with shot # 170-330, intensity=.016a2, coverage=200%. how much dimensional change on the dia. may i expect?
cougfan..
i doubt you will get more than 0.0004" change in this part on the od (barely measureable with conventional micrometers).
caution: carefully deburr/radius pin edges and the thru-hole "lips", 0.01"--0.03"r (0.02"-0.03"r recommended) to avoid "roll-over/distortion"... (slight bulging occurs where sharp edges are crushed down/out by the shot-blast stream).
also, don't expect much of a peening affect in the holes beyond about 0.37 from ends... too deep.
