This is a follow up to Problem Report # 259641 Symmetry dimensional report and Problem Report  # 254662

<< Robert Lewenkron  --  04/25/08  09:39:21>>
This is a follow up to Problem Report # 259641.

This is one of two problems that were found in the execution of symmetry dimensional reporting using Feature Control Frame.

Feature Control Frame is not reporting data of a symmetry point correctly when called out to a Datum of another symmetrical point. When you add the feature that you are checking for symmetry to a specified datum the result is doubled to the deviation of the actual positional measured value of the distance between those two mid points.

Also after creating the FCF PC-DMIS does not indicate that there was any further required information needed to complete the reported value. After closing and reopening PC-DMIS doesn't let us know that there is an ID error and that there needs to be another feature to link to get the correct calculations to complete the symmetry value.

I have determined that if I created a duplicate feature of the datum with a different name and called to the next feature in FCF symmetry I was able to get the correct value needed to complete the symmetry dimensional report.

I have included in this report both a good and a bad symmetry point PC-DMIS program to reflect this information.

FCF symmetry supports :
2 considered feature planes (opposite sides of the midplane)
1 considered feature plane which is the midplane (nominally)
2 considered feature lines (opposite sides of the midplane)
1 considered feature line which is the midline
2 considered feature points (opposite sides of the midplane)
1 considered feature point which is the midpoint
2 sets - first set has points on one side of midplane, second set has points on other side of midplane
1 set - containing points on alternate sides of the midplane
1 circle, cone or cylinder

- the datum(s) define the symmetry plane (midplane) or symmetry axis
The problem is that the when the program was loaded, PC-DMIS was flagging an FCF with only one considered feature as missing a feature ID.  This was a false error.
Fixed in V43B an V44B.

The issue here is a misunderstanding of how to create a FCF symmetry, although the FCF allows the user to create a symmetry with only one plane feature and a datum.  The FCF dialog needs to be modified not to allow this (give an error dialog).
