2nd floor garage floor load
planning on building (24 x 30) 3 car garage.   home office to be under garage, need to know thickness of concrete pad and car load for calculating size of 6 - 24ft beams.  there will be a 7/12 roof with no floor above the garage, just below.  walls will be 10 inch block.  can anyone help with this calculation.
cocncrete floor in garage? why would you want to work under three piles of steel, plastic and gasoline? will you have 2 or more exits? what kind of walls in office? underground? ventilation?
office walls will be exposed with two exits, one to outside, other to exsiting basement.  walls are 10 inch block with plenty of windows.  no more room to build.
consider using 60 psf loading on the entire floor.  how did you detirmine the 6 beam spacing?  is joist to be installed over the beams? are the beams wood or steel?  what depth?
steel w8x 24
planning on using steel beams.  if we can get by with less beams that would be great.  planning on steel decking between beams and concrete floor.  open for suggestions!
did you ever think about going with a prestressed hollow core concrete plank. you could use about a 8" deep plank which will support spans of 30' for a residential garage. take a look at spancrete.
here's a better link, than the one above.
what is the rib height and spacing you plan on using?
that is the question, what size i beam or maybe steel trusses would work every couple feet.  want to be able to support 6 inch floor plus cars.
there are three options to consider:
composite concrete/steel joists
consists of 2-1/2 to 4 inch layer of concrete placed on a steel deck or ribbed pan that is supported by steel joists. i indicate above the w8-24 sections will work.  usually these are light guage steel trusses "c" joists spaced at no more than 24 inches  .  but plz provide some more info on the rib pan you plan on using and i can specify the shear stud spacing.  typically interior decks shall be of six inch wide, unpainted 18 ga. slip resistant galvannealed steel per astm a-924, a-60 with recessed fasteners.  a six inch panel is nominal 5" flats with a maximum 1" recesses (over 1" recess is unacceptable).  panels must be brake formed and provide inside radiuses no greater than 1/8".
