aci-318 6.4.6 - under-poured column/shearwall
say you have a concrete placement for an elevated slab and a column or shearwall from below that slab is found to have been under-poured. how under-poured does a vertical element from below have to be before you start to consider aci-318 6.4.6?
aci-318 6.4.6 鈥?beams, girders, or slabs supported by columns or walls shall not be cast or erected until concrete
in the vertical support members is no longer
plastic.
if you are placing concrete on a form system that doesn't rely on the supporting columns, but rather the floor below, then probably not an issue.
this provision is to allow the column or wall concrete to consolidate before the horizontal structure is cast, thus avoiding a gap at the top of the column. so if it is only a few inches or even a foot, no problem. |
