anchoring of handrails
quick question; load rating some exterior walkway handrails. to anchor the handrail posts they just cored out the concrete and rested them in the holes. now, asce07 states that the minimum load must be applied in any direction but this seems unrealistic that you could get direct uplift without some lateral load.
i'm assuming that as the code makes it quite clear with any direction that it must be designed for direct uplift but i wanted a second opinion on this.

handrails must be anchored.  just putting them in a cored hole is insufficient.  every code that i work with requires design to accommodate load application in any direction.  that means up as well.
epoxy grout?

just what i figured, epoxy it is.

tmp...yes, epoxy works well.  a sand-filled epoxy such as lambert's base plate grout is good.  be sure that if the handrail is aluminum, that the core hole does not intersect rebar as you will have a corrosion issue.
not to worry, all steel.
