battered piles on pier
i am attempting to finalize a design for the pile footing of a horizontal curve plate girder bridge. my question is about the battered piles and what loads go into account for the piles. i have used the wind and wind on live load. it was originally designed over 10 years ago and has been re-designed to account for traffic load changes. the calcs with the original design can't be located and the original design seems a bit overkill in comparison to the loads i am getting. any help or direction would be appreciated.

to me this question is easily answered in aashto section 3.  there you will find all the loads and how to apply them.  there are loads on the superstructure which have to be transfered to the substructure such as the ones you've mentioned and there are also other components of longitudinal loads for bridges with skewed piers (in your case non-radial for curved bridges).  there are of course the loads applied directly to the substructure units.
from memory:
wind on superstructure, transverse;
wind on live load, transverse;
centrifugal forces and
wind on substructure
again there maybe some component of longitudinal forces.  also for particular regions there are earthquake forces and in the case of stream crossings, stream forces.
