block wall footing design
i have to design a 10" tall cmu block wall - could someone give me design steps to run through or a reference for the wall and concrete footing design?
check out our whitepaper library.
many concrete and masonry text books cover the subject in details and full of examples. for the concrete i would use jack mccormack and for masonry i suggest dickey's. there are many more text books that are as good.
by the way, i hope you meant to say 10'-0" tall wall not 10".
good luck
10 feet - thanks
reinforced cmu wall design is similiar to reinforced concrete design using masonry properties rather than concrete. see dickey's book for more info.
non reinforced cmu can be designed either by rational analysis or code required parameters. rational analysis is usually governed by allowable tensile stress on the mortar or compression on the blocks using net block area. many older codes specified allowable height to thickness ratios for walls.
watchout for newer code requirements related to special inspections.
