board room table
i have been charged with designing the framework and support for a board room table that was designed by our interior department. the internal framework is not a problem. however, the table top cantilevers 3'-0" all around the table. where can i find design values for plywood as well as grade information?
the best resource is the american plywood associations. here is a link for the publications:
in the uk, bs5268 part 2 would give you required information for your desing.
just for my own curiosity, what are the loads to design a board room table top?
design loads for table top:
i am designing for a 300 pound point load at mid span of the supports or the plywood and at the edge of the table. i have not settled on a distributed load as of yet. if anyone has some input on this, i would appreciate it.
sperlingpe,
just by way of comparison, a parking deck is designed for dead load + live load of 50 psf (usually). so, i would think a uniform load of the same would be adequate. but, as you point out, the point load most likely will control. in that case, does 300 lbs seem enough? it is uncouth, but you could have more than one person on the table at a time! |
