brick protection
i've got a project coming up where a fibre reinforced plastic vessel is subjected to a slurry having an abrasive load.  the client has used and has suggested using a 'disposable' brick lining to be abraided and replaced every couple of years.
has anyone encountered something similar and what material has been used for the brick?  any alternative material?  how is the brick secured to the frp container?  mortar sufficient with the curved shape holding the brick against the frp?

find a job or post a job opening
i have seen brick-lining in carbon steel veseels, in acid plants, but not in frp vessels.
what is the slurry?
how about hdpe as an alternative material of construction for the vessel?  hdpe-lined steel pipe is used in tailings slurry piping.
i'll raise the point; i was wondering about other coating materials.
thanks, dik
the slurry is rock tailings; i don't have a size, yet.

i worked with taconite (low grade iron ore) tailings a few years ago. this was in the iron ore mining/processing industry.
the tailings were very, very hard, angular and freshly crushed.
we were pumping them for disposal and a typical steel elbow would last several weeks (24x7) before wearing through and erroding. the best operating solution was to use rubber lined elbows in the flange clamped pipe.
these were not long term pipe intallations (1-2 years), but the physical process is the same. usually operating people can provide some assistance if the product in suspension is not necessarily new.
this by provide a lead to some other approach other than hardness.
