capacity of a steel wf beam web with a longitudinal compress
i am looking at a situation where a steel beam is picking up a 20 kip compressive load because it picks up the back end of a diagonal kicker in compression.  so it's really a beam-column, with flexure from the floor load above and compression from picking up this diagonal kicker.
anyway, the compressive load is being delivered directly to the beam's web thru the bolts of a double-angle connection, if that makes sense...how do i check that the web won't buckle under this 20 kip load, which acts along the longitudinal axis of the beam?
thanks

difficult challenge to be sure.  if it is an isolated condition, perhaps you just add some longitudinal stiffners to cover that buckling issue as that wouldn't be too expensive and would save you time in seeking an answer to an isolated condition.
check roarke's formulas for stress and strain, table 35, formulas for elastic stability of plates and shells.  i would use case 1a, with a/b=3.
