connection of steel joist to reinforced cmu wall
what is the usual way to attach light weight steel joists to a new cmu wall.  do they sit on the wall in pockets?  or sit on a channel anchored in the wall?  which is the cheapest solution?
thanks

check out our whitepaper library.
it all depends on the local practices in your area. also other requirements such as uplift, horizontal shear transfer should be considered.
i live in florida and we have the practice of using shear walls and diaphragms to transfer shears. we use concrete tie beams that act as chords for the roof shear.
i use steel embeds into the tie beams. the steel joist seats are then welded to the embed. a consideration is the location of the joist seat and the eccentricity on the wall. the moment due to the eccentricity can sneak up on you and add up.
good luck.
ick2...i agree with lutfi for conventional steel joists, but for light gage steel joists or trusses, attachment similar to methods used for wood joists/trusses can be used, paying attention to the design aspects lutfi mentioned.
